The Other Wes Moore theme analysis

Blog #5

Theme Statement: A fathers role can affect a child's life

Literary Device: personification

P.101 "Wes's nonexistent relationship with his father probably contributed to his seeming indifference about becoming a father himself"

Analysis:
In the quote it says the nonexistent relationship Wes and his dad had probably contributed to Wes's idea of being a father. The quote seems like personification because the father-son relationship is being used as a contributor to something else. When the other Wes finds out hes going to be a father he doesn't know how to react and doesn't really care or understand the responsibilities that come out of being a parent and it might be due to the fact that his dad was never around to talk to him about things like that and Wes didn't have him as an example to follow or role model. Also for Wes the narrator not having a dad might have had something to do with why his behavior is out of control because his father isn't there to help him with the transition from being a child to a Young adult and with teaching him how to mature and that's probably why he gets sent to military school to have a manly figure there that will replace his fathers absence. Not having a dad may affect a lot of children because they don't have an example to follow or advice a mother cant give.
